Insane Diesel was founded by John Lorenzo, whose experience in tribology, machinery lubrication, oil analysis, and condition monitoring shaped the technical foundation of the company and its products.
John understood that engine wear rarely comes from a single event. It develops over time as microscopic contamination, friction, heat, moisture, soot, and other factors continually affect lubricated components. His work focused on understanding those conditions, identifying them through analysis and monitoring, and finding better ways to control the wear they create.
That experience led to years of testing and development behind the EXTREME Bypass Oil Filtration System, Lorenzo's Oil™ Engine Oil, and Lorenzo's Oil™ Fuel Combustion Enhancement Additive — products developed around the same fundamental goal: keeping engines cleaner, reducing unnecessary wear, and helping equipment remain dependable for the people and businesses that rely on it.

From Oil Analysis to Insane Diesel
Insane Diesel did not begin with a product idea alone. It grew out of John Lorenzo's years of work in oil analysis, machinery condition monitoring, lubrication, and contamination control.
While working with oil analysis programs and heavy-duty equipment, John evaluated used oil from engines and machinery running a variety of lubrication and bypass filtration systems already on the market. That experience gave him the opportunity to study how different approaches performed in real operating conditions and how oil cleanliness, filtration, fuel contamination, and maintenance practices affected equipment over time.
His work also included developing and implementing oil sampling, filtration, and condition-monitoring programs for large mobile equipment fleets, including work within a major Utah mining operation. These programs focused on improving oil cleanliness, identifying the root causes of lubrication and fuel-related problems, and reducing unnecessary maintenance through better monitoring and contamination control.
Around the same period, John worked closely with Gear Head Analysis, an oil analysis operation that supported some of his early testing and later became part of the broader business model surrounding Insane Diesel. Oil analysis remained an important part of how John evaluated filtration performance and refined his approach.
Rather than simply adopting an existing bypass filtration system, John used what he learned from testing different systems, analyzing oil, and working with demanding equipment to develop and refine the filtration approach that would eventually become the EXTREME Bypass Oil Filtration System.
As Engines Evolve, So Do We
Today's Insane Diesel team continues to test, refine, adapt, and improve what John started. From product upgrades and new applications to installation improvements and customer experience, we continue building on his knowledge while adapting to the changing demands of modern engines and equipment.
Our goal is simple: preserve the principles that made Insane Diesel what it is while never treating any product as finished when there is an opportunity to make it better.
